Back to my roots...

The weather is cooling and I continue to reorganize storage space... hunting gear, backpacking gear, wake boards, summer chairs... go to the hanger to storage. I still need to clean the chicken coop and install the heat lamp... the nights have been cold and we've had a little snow. I need to clean out my laundry/sewing space so that I can use it again. It seems there is never enough storage space around here. Perhaps I need to get rid of some stuff... too much stuff.

Yesterday we looked at campers.... if you're not familiar, campers are the things you see on the pickup beds... and JB is now set on moving into a new camper. It was nice inside, but yes, this is downsizing even more. Dump both trailers and downsize to a camper... so now we can drive our home anywhere! We can pull up to the mountain and ski... take a hunting trip... drive to Alaska or Mexico... all from our little home. Mobility is key. For our property -our regular parking space, I suggested a "living room" shed, where we can at least sit and watch a movie. He has to amend this plan to involve a shed on wheels, so we can move it around in the future. Mobility is key.

I remember there was a time when I wanted to be able to pack everything I owned in my Pathfinder. Mobility was key. I wouldn't even buy a real bed (I slept on a futon matress) or a TV or a table for this reason. If I couldn't move in one car load, what would become of me? Never accumulate more than you can pack in the car. How did I, the privately educated, materially spoiled daughter of parents with means, ever develop this philosophy? I still wonder at that. Why am I so afraid of strings? Of being rooted? It seems I am back to my true roots and I'm with a partner who has similar ideas.... mobility is key. This might be the glue.

We discuss our life's bail out options... what to do if all else fails... and it involve such romantic ideas as long haul trucking. But what about all the animals? I imagine a trailer coop/kennel... with chickens, cats, and dogs... driving down the highway. Mobility is key.
