The ground is frozen, the nights have been in the teens and days in 30's. The freezing fog may not lift all day today. This year, winter brings a sense of relief. We will have weekends back... I can knit and sew again... have privacy when I want it... and being indoors will feel like a privilege and not a prison sentence.
On to knitting again... my alpaca hoodie is coming along. I get to wear the hats and slippers I knit last winter -at least what's left of the slipper that Emma chewed. I can stitch together the sweater I never finished last year. And maybe, just maybe, I will get to stitch some of my quilt together.
Is this what winter offered to women a hundred years ago I wonder... some hope of long, quiet nights when nothing can be done elsewhere?
